Thank You for Supporting okappa in 2025

The days between Christmas and New Year are often described as quiet and reflective — and while there is a pause, I’ll be honest: I’m not exactly slowing down right now. In Japanese culture, this is one of the busiest times of the year. We clean the house thoroughly (think spring cleaning, but more intense), clear out the old to welcome the New Year, and begin preparing for festive New Year dishes. So yes, there’s reflection — but also a lot of movement, planning, and scrubbing.
That feels fitting as I sit down to write this.
Looking back on 2025, I feel deeply grateful. This year, I participated in 21 pop-ups and events, which gave me many chances to meet customers in person and connect with fellow small business owners. These moments — short conversations at a table, shared recommendations, words of encouragement — continue to remind me how generous and supportive this community truly is.

Another part of this year that I hold close is the time spent connecting with Japanese makers. Visiting workshops, hearing their stories, and understanding the intention and history behind each piece is endlessly inspiring. It always brings me back to okappa’s roots — why I started, what I care about, and why I want to keep going. These relationships, built slowly and thoughtfully, are at the heart of everything I do.

As I look toward 2026, I plan to keep showing up — at pop-ups, in conversations, and through the objects I choose to bring into the collection. I’m taking time to reflect, to plan what’s next, and to imagine how okappa can continue to grow in a way that feels grounded, honest, and true.
Thank you for supporting okappa — for your curiosity, your care, and your excitement about well-made, quality houseware. It means more than I can put into words.
Warmly,
Yasuko
Okay, I gotta get back to my vent cleaning now.
