Description

Hand-carved in Matsumoto, Japan by Okubo House Mokkosha, this cherry wood spatula is loved for how naturally it moves in the hand. Its gentle, boomerang-like curve follows the motion of your wrist, making stirring, folding, and turning ingredients feel smooth and intuitive — almost like an extension of your arm.

The shape isn’t just beautiful; it’s incredibly functional. The curved edge hugs the roundness of a pan, helping you lift and turn ingredients quickly and evenly. A small flattened point at the tip breaks up ground meat, loosens noodles, and reaches into corners without missing a single bit. Once you cook with it, the difference from a standard wooden spatula is unmistakable.

Each spatula is carved from sakura (Japanese cherry wood) and finished entirely with a hand plane — never sandpaper. This traditional method creates a naturally smooth surface that stays pleasant to the touch over years of use and doesn’t fuzz or roughen. It’s a tool that simply gets better with time.
Over the years, the cherry wood deepens in color and develops a soft patina — the kind of beautiful change you can see in my own 10-year-old spatula pictured here.

Available in right-handed and left-handed versions, thoughtfully shaped to support the natural movement of each cook.

Because every piece is made from natural wood, variations in grain and color will make your spatula uniquely yours — and it will deepen in tone as it’s used and loved in your kitchen.

Please note that these pieces are made from natural wood, so each one has its own character. The grain, color, and texture will vary. Because every spatula is handcrafted, slight variations in size and shape will occur. These small differences are part of the charm of tools made by hand. Enjoy these natural differences as the individuality of the wood and the beauty of a one-of-a-kind piece.

Artisan

Okubo House Mokkosha

Okubo House Mokkosha creates wooden kitchen tools and cutlery that blend time-honored techniques with a fresh, intuitive sense of use. Founder Kotaro Okubo hand-carves each piece in his studio in Matsumoto, shaping the wood with a small plane rather than sanding — an old method that keeps the surface smooth for years. His unique approach, rooted in his background in Kyoto crafting traditional wooden doors and architectural fittings, results in utensils that feel remarkably natural in the hand. These are tools meant to be used every day and enjoyed for a long, long time.
