Description
This small but ingenious brush was born from a thoughtful approach to materials and everyday cooking. Crafted from bamboo offcuts originally intended for making Japanese tea whisks (chasen), it gives new life to pieces that would otherwise be discarded, and is finished with a silk kumihimo cord from Kyoto.
Designed to fit into the fine grooves of a mortar (suribachi) or the ridges of a grater, the slim, flexible bristles sweep up sesame seeds, ginger, wasabi, garlic, and other aromatics without waste. What once clung stubbornly to the surface now easily finds its way into your dish, where it belongs.
It pairs perfectly with our Small Oroshigane Copper Grater, making it a thoughtful companion tool for everyday cooking.
Lightweight and only about 3 inches long, this brush quickly becomes an indispensable kitchen companion. It’s not about perfection with a single swipe—it’s about that satisfying, simple motion that makes prep and cleanup easier while letting nothing go to waste.
Made entirely from natural materials, the brush will one day return to the earth when its work is done. Until then, it’s a humble yet essential tool that reflects the Japanese belief in making the most of every material and finding beauty in small details.
